CRbalsa owns and manages its own balsa plantations in Costa Rica. Balsa trees (Ochroma pyramidale) are fast-growing and harvested after 4–6 years, ensuring a steady supply of premium-quality wood. Known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, balsa is the preferred core material in composite structures for industries like wind energy, marine, and aerospace. Its lightweight yet strong properties also make it ideal for rafts, surfboards, and model building. Our plantations are designed for optimal growth with proper spacing for sunlight and air circulation. Beyond industrial use, balsa plantations contribute to carbon sequestration, soil conservation, and wildlife habitat. CRbalsa also maintains Premium Balsa Plantations secure material.
